Questions

What people ask us before they hire anyone

If yours isn't here, write or call and we'll answer it.

Do I need papers to have rights at work?

No. Pay, safety and anti-discrimination protections generally cover everyone who works, whatever their immigration status. We don't handle immigration cases, and we can point you to someone who does.

Will my employer know I called?

Not from us. We don't contact your employer until you decide what you want us to do, and we explain what that contact would look like first.

How long do I have to act?

Claims have deadlines, and some are short. Waiting to hear back from us doesn't stop the clock, so call as soon as you can, even if you aren't sure you have a case.

How do you charge?

It depends on the case. Some are handled for a share of whatever is recovered, and others by the hour. We explain the arrangement in writing before you decide anything. If we take a case for a share of a recovery, you may still owe costs such as filing fees and records, and we tell you what those could be before you sign.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

Pay stubs, your schedule, texts, letters and the names of anyone who saw what happened. If you have none of it, come anyway; we'll start from your account.

Can I keep working while I make a claim?

Often, yes. We talk through the risks first, and we tell you what to write down if anything at work starts to change.

What if a staffing company or crew leader hired me?

That is common here. A staffing company can owe wages, and sometimes the business that used its workers does too. We look at who really ran your day.

What kinds of cases don't you take?

We represent workers, never employers. We don't take immigration, workers' compensation or injury cases. We can point you to someone who does.

Can we talk in my language?

Marcelina and Mika meet clients in Spanish, and Efren in English and Tagalog. For any other language we book an interpreter for the meeting.
